One trip to Africa will change your life
How we started. Where we are going.
Dream it.
It began with an idea. In 2018 while on a work trip to West Africa, I was moved by the beauty of the African people. They were happy. They were kind. They were hard-working and deserving. Many, however, were striving to survive. Need was evident. Need was everywhere. Most of the children I met did not know how to read.
Test it.
The idea became a reality. As luck would have it, right before the trip I had been introduced to Learning Dynamics Pre-schools, where 98% of students are reading at a 1st grade level by the time they start kindergarten. I took 5 Learning Dynamics programs with me and left them with families and an orphanage. It worked!
Start it.
The idea was fueled with hard work, good friends, and a little luck. This is where our charity began. Good friends donated $6,000, others gave plane tickets. Learning Dynamics gifted the first 75 programs (over 4,000 books) for orphans in Africa. Teachers were trained and young children began to read.
Build it.
Non-profit organizations in Africa can thrive when local people run the program. Ernest and Sarah Gyampoh (featured in the video on this page) have been involved from the beginning. Ernest and Sarah receive the shipments, deliver programs, work with orphanages, train teachers, assess reading progress, and dream up new ideas. They have begun to build our program.
Grow it.
Ghana alone has an estimated 1.1 million orphans. Reaching out to orphans is only one of four models the Doctrina Foundation uses to help children learn to read. Most orphanages come with their own infrastructure, teachers, and funding. We provide the reading programs and training. the program will incentives teachers to bring about real, lasting results.
Share it.
We have the program. We have the people. We have very little overhead. We need you. Over 85% of donated funds will go to purchasing and shipping programs, training teachers, assessing children’s reading, and employing Ghanaians. Learning to read can make the greatest difference in the life of a child. Please come join us!
